Commemoration of the World Aids Day 2021 in our communities

The global commemoration of the World AIDS Day is on December 1, 2020. The day is dedicated to raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and is in remembrance of those who have lost their lives to complications of HIV.

HIV still remains a major public health issue that affects millions of people in our local and global communities.

Although the world has made significant progress in recent decades, division, disparity and disregard for human rights are still among the failures that allowed HIV to become and remain a global health crisis. Now, COVID-19 is exacerbating inequities and disruptions to services, making the lives of many people living with HIV more challenging.

The theme of World AIDS Day 2021 is End inequalities. End AIDS”.  With a special focus on reaching people left behind.

Our field teams were in the respective counties also participating in the county led procession with each county having unique themes tailored towards the day. In Seme, the days theme was focused on stopping “Adolescents and Young People (AYP) And Specifically on Teenage Pregnancies”, and it was graced by the county’s minister of health official, whereas also giving the youths opportunities to get to know their HIV status through testing that were conducted at Ratta ACK Grounds.
